cheyenne mountain zoo melted my face off.

you might know this already, but incase you haven’t heard: i love the f**king zoo.

perhaps its because i am a kid at heart. or maybe, it’s because i seem to think i am an animal myself (wolf). its probably a combination of both.

more importantly, i love the zoo so much, that sean’s sister kendall purchased me my own zoo pass, so i could enjoy the zoo every (and any) day of the year.

and while my home zoo will always be the amazing denver zoo…i think i am having an affair with the cheyenne mountain zoo.

last week my friend noelle, her son landon, and i headed down to colorado springs for our dear friend emmie dyson’s wedding. we went down a day early, so we could hit up the cheyenne mountain zoo. that is when it happend, the old cmz pulled a fast one on me and melted my zoo loving face off.

hidden in the mountains and set against a beautiful background of colorado springs, the cheyenne mountain zoo was filled with ALL of my favorite animals (minus of course, the great Aye-Aye!). they have wolves, bears, lions, elephants, zebras, tigers, otters, okapi (yes, jess, they have okapi!) and leopards…but more importantly they have moose, naked mole rats, porcupines, common house cats, and dung beetles!

by far, the biggest attraction for the cheyenne mountain zoo, is the opportunity to get closer to the animals then you’d ever imagine. the giraffes (all 12 of them) can be fed by the zoo vistors at any time in the day. i was overly excited to get some up close and personal time with the giraffes. in fact, i’m not sure who was more excited, me or landon? probably me.

my favorite part of the day was spending time with the wallabies. although they are not officially kangaroos, they are similar – and it reminded me of my dear niece cora-roo. it was nice to spend some quality time her at the zoo and in my heart. (miss you roo).
